Katherine Dailey
State Government Reporter & Data-Driven Investigative Journalist
I’m a reporter at the Michigan Advance, part of the States Newsroom network, covering state policy and politics around the Great Lakes State. I cover the justice beat for our newsroom, encompassing coverage of law enforcement on all levels, courts and the Attorney General's office, as well as civil rights issues and civil litigation like housing. I also handle our beat coverage of Michigan's diverse communities, including the LGBTQ+ and indigenous communities.
I’m a passionate investigative reporter who loves combining data-driven reporting, public records analysis and on-the-ground interviews with the people most impacted by a given issue. I love creating graphics and data visualizations and taking photos to accompany my writing and convey hard topics, as well as finding unique ways to tell a story that might otherwise seem bland. With over five years of news writing experience, spanning investigations, breaking news, and enterprise projects, I have extensive experience reporting and writing on housing, healthcare policy, government spending and campaigns. I am passionate about using journalism as a force to hold those in power to account.
